Tuesday, Sept 25: Public Safety & Parks Town Hall

Dear Neighbors,

It’s been a busy month for the whole community as Anchorage schools begin a new year and UAA classes began. Luckily, the continued stretch of summer weather has made it a great time to talk to friends and neighbors—and for road construction to wind down after a rainy August. See Tuck’s Tips below for road construction updates!

Mark Your Calendars! Community Town Hall on Parks and Public Safety

On Tuesday, September 25 at 5:30pm at the Taku Elementary School Multipurpose Room, please join me, the Anchorage Parks Foundation, and local law enforcement for a community dialogue. We will discuss concerns about crime in the area, public safety resources, how to report criminal activity, park safety, and more. Mark your calendars and bring your questions and ideas! All are welcome. My constituents will also soon receive a newsletter with an update on criminal justice reform.

Bills Signed into Law

This summer, eight bills I introduced were signed into law, some having been amended into other bills. This is a great honor and I am humbled by the bipartisan support from my colleagues, the great work from my staff, and teamwork from all stakeholders to pass these bills to provide more opportunities for Alaskans.

  • HB 2: Extends hiring preference for military service members and veterans to private businesses. (Press Release)
  • HB 3: Protects reemployment rights of Alaska National Guard members when they are called into service. (Press Release)
  • HB 233: Extends the Alaska Education Tax Credit Program to encourage private investment in public education. Businesses can reduce their tax liability while simultaneously supporting the institutions and programs that give Alaskans the skills they need to succeed. (Press Release)
  • HB 150, HB 126, and HB 307: As Chair of the Military & Veterans’ Committee, I worked with military leaders to pass these three bills to modernize Alaska’s military code to protect Alaska’s service members. (Press Release)
  • HB 100: Establishes June 27 as Post-Traumatic Stress Injury Day in Alaska. HB 100 was rolled into SB 152, which establishes September 11 as Patriot Day. (Press Release)
  • HB 269: Allows craft distilleries to serve cocktails in their tasting rooms. HB 269 was rolled into SB 45, along with several other aspects of alcohol licensing reform.
