Our Annual Restorative Justice Community Event Tomorrow. Join us!

Tomorrow, Thursday, November 29th, join Senator Begich and me for a community discussion on Restorative Justice. Restorative Justice focuses on the rehabilitation of offenders through reconciliation with victims and our communities. The principles of restorative justice, whether used in schools or the courts, are grounded in the traditional practices of indigenous cultures to value respect, compassion, dignity, and inclusion for all members of the community.

Thursday’s community forum will feature a national speaker trained in restorative justice school-based practices and a local speaker involved in building life skills for re-entering society after serving time in prison.

I hope you’ll join us from 6-8pm at the Mountain View Library for this important conversation.

Thank You Alaska Farm Bureau!

I want to extend a thank you to the Alaska Farm Bureau for their recognition of me as the Legislator of the Year for 2018. I’m so grateful to be part of an organization that fights for agriculture, good jobs, farm education and food freedom. I’m always excited to work hard and  fight for farmers and foodies across our state!

Thanksgiving Blessing in Mountain View

This November, I was thankful for my community and for all of the volunteers that took time to help with this year’s Thanksgiving Blessing at the Mountain View Boys and Girls Club. The Food Bank of Alaska provided food and supplies for full traditional Thanksgiving meals to hundreds of families in our neighborhood, along with hundreds more across the municipality. Winters can be hard for families and the holidays can be hard for a lot of our neighbors. It’s so encouraging to be reminded how much our community cares for each other. Thank you to the Food Bank of Alaska and the Boys and Girls Club for their tireless work in making sure our families had the supplies they needed to share a hot meal together this Thanksgiving.
