Rep. Les Gara, and Facing Foster Care in Alaska founder Amanda Metivier, are launching a Back To School drive to get more laptops to foster youth so they can succeed in school. Gara and Metivier, both former foster youth, founded the Laptops for Foster Youth effort at the suggestion of many youth, who faced barriers to success, and needed online access to schoolwork.

Juneau – Today, the Alaska House of Representatives passed the “Education Funding Act” to set up a stable revenue stream to help pay for Alaska’s constitutionally mandated public education system. House Bill 115 is the final piece of the Alaska House Majority Coalition’s comprehensive fiscal plan to pass the Alaska House of Representatives.

NEWS: Bill Introduced to Provide More Funds for Public Education

Juneau – Wednesday, the Alaska House of Representatives read across a bill introduced by Rep. Justin Parish (D-Juneau) to restructure the Public School Trust Fund. The restructure is expected to bring in more than $10 million annually for education by combining what are now separate accounts and utilizing a percent of market value (POMV) draw of 4.75 percent of the fund’s value.
