Session is going full steam now! I’m thankful to be here alive after the scariest drive of my life getting here. The changing climate is bringing unseasonably warm temperatures and in turn treacherous road conditions as it snows, then melts, and turns to ice. I’ve done this drive twenty times and have never encountered anything like what I did this time.

Anchorage – Sunday was the 8th anniversary of the signing of the federal Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act by former President Barack Obama. The act, which put in place requirements to equalize pay between men and women, was the very first piece of legislation signed by President Obama after he took office in 2009.

Juneau – On Friday, which is the 7th anniversary of President Obama signing the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, three members of the Alaska Legislature will hold a press availability to discuss equal pay legislation being considered during the ongoing legislative session in Juneau. This is part of a larger national effort to raise awareness of the need to ensure women are paid equally for doing the same work as their male counterparts. At Friday’s event the three lawmakers will be joined by other women working on the equal pay issue in Alaska, including representatives with the Alaska Women’s Lobby.
