Juneau – Today, the Alaska House of Representatives concurred with the Alaska Senate in approving House Joint Resolution 5 sponsored by Representative Dean Westlake (D-Kotzebue). The resolution urges the United States Congress to pass legislation to open the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to oil and gas development.

Juneau – Today, the Alaska State Senate joined the Alaska House of Representatives in approving House Joint Resolution 5, urging the United States Congress to pass legislation to open the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to oil and gas development. The resolution, sponsored by Representative Dean Westlake (D-Kotzebue), underwent minor changes in the Senate and will be taken up again by the Alaska House on Friday. After concurrence, HJR 5 will be forwarded to Congress and President Donald Trump for consideration when developing policy regarding increased oil and gas exploration and development on federal lands in Alaska.

Juneau – Today, the Alaska House of Representatives approved a resolution urging Congress to pass legislation to open the 1002 study area of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) for oil and gas exploration and development. House Joint Resolution 5, sponsored by Representative Dean Westlake (D-Kotzebue), passed the Alaska House of Representatives by a vote of 31-4. The resolution was co-sponsored by 12 members of the Alaska House.

Juneau – Today, House Joint Resolution 5 passed out of the Senate Resources Committee after hearing public testimony.

The resolution was introduced by Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage) at the beginning of the session. The resolution now has 27 co-sponsors in the House and six co-sponsors in the Senate.

NEWS: Anti-Frankenfish Resolution Passes Alaska House

Today, the Alaska State House approved a resolution (HJR5) by Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage) opposing the federal Food and Drug Administration’s approval of Genetically Modified Salmon in the United States. This action brings the 28th Alaska State Legislature one step closer to joining the Alaska Congressional Delegation and the governor in standing with Alaska’s fishermen against “Frankenfish.”
