I hope that you are well and happy this holiday season. My wife Kelly and I wish you health and happiness during this season and in the coming year.
This is one of my favorite holidays of the year, not just because it’s a time to celebrate with friends and family, but because there’s such an amazing outpouring of support from communities all over the state to help those in need!
(ANCHORAGE) – Today, Representative Les Gara (D-Anchorage) and Facing Foster Care in Alaska (FFCA) are launching a Laptops for Foster Youth Holiday Drive with a press conference at 11 a.m. They will announce the drive, which will be augmented by a recent $20,000 donation, at the Dimond Center in Anchorage. The press conference will take place at the entrance just west of Best Buy. Following the press conference Rep. Gara and Facing Foster Care in Alaska co-founder Amanda Metivier will purchase discounted computers at local stores.
In my life, I tend to be most thankful when a burden has been lifted or I have received something that I didn’t deserve. Unfortunately, I tend to take for granted the little blessings in my life. But shouldn’t we always be thankful? Not only when our burdens are relieved but also when we are experiencing good times and during bad times?
I and other legislators were not allowed to send out newsletters in the month before the November election. That’s why you haven’t received a newsletter in a while. But, well, that season of loud ads is thankfully over.
ANCHORAGE – Representative Les Gara (D-Anchorage) today called on Alaskans to continue their support to help match Alaska’s growing number of foster youth with badly needed laptop computers. The number of foster youth in Alaska has been rising, from 1,880 in 2012 to 2,089 today.
Dear Neighbors,
Thanksgiving Day is tomorrow and I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. I often write about the warmth and generosity of our community and believe that we live up to our title of “The Golden Heart City”. There are dozens of worthy charitable organizations, churches and groups that help those in need. They need our support year round and especially during the holiday season.
Happy Thanksgiving!
This is a great time for home cooks (and enthusiastic eaters). But it’s also a time to reflect on, and give thanks for, our blessings.
One hundred and fifty years before America was founded, European Christians set sail to search for religious freedom. Landing at Plymouth Rock they suffered death, disease, starvation and terrible accidents. Fewer than half survived their first winter.
