The 2011 Legislative Session is rapidly coming to a close and I will soon be coming home. Marilyn and I, along with our dog “Lily”, will take the ride home to Fairbanks. Rep. Petersen’s Report from the Capitol: Working for Lower Gasoline Prices; Turning Garbage into Energy; Anchorage Caucus Meetings; and House Finance Taking Testimony on Oil Tax Bill

Gasoline prices are back in the national news, but in Alaska high gas prices have been an issue that hasn’t gone away. Since 2008 Alaskan gas prices have consistently been the highest in the nation, excluding state taxes, even though we produce more oil per capita than any other state. It didn’t use to be this way, as early as March 2007 Anchorage actually had the lowest gas prices of any city in the country.

The Petersen Report: News from the Capitol – Anchorage Caucus Meetings Coming Up; Energy Committee Hears Important Energy Bill; Bills on the Move

I will be home in Anchorage the next two weekends for meetings of the Anchorage Caucus, of which I am a co-chair. In addition to the public hearing scheduled for Saturday March 26th from 10am to 1pm at the Assembly Chambers in the Loussac Library, we have added a second meeting on Saturday March 19 from 10 am to noon in the same location. The Anchorage Caucus consists of all of the legislators representing the Anchorage area so these will be great opportunities to share your ideas and concerns with the Anchorage delegation.
