NEWS: House Passes Bill to Allow a New Type of Corporation in Alaska

Juneau – Today, the Alaska House of Representatives approved legislation to allow benefit corporations to operate in Alaska. Benefit corporations are for profit organizations that incorporate public benefits and community improvements into their business model. House Bill 124, sponsored by Representative Sam Kito (D-Juneau), would bring Alaska’s corporate law in line with thirty-one other states that have passed benefit corporation legislation.

NEWS: Feds Approve “Frankenfish” Despite Widespread Opposition and Unacceptable Risks to Alaska’s Abundant Wild Salmon Resource

ANCHORAGE – Today, the Food and Drug Administration, for the first time ever, approved the human consumption of a genetically modified animal. The FDA approved AquaBounty Technologies application to raise a genetically modified fast growing Atlantic salmon despite widespread concerns about the health risks to humans and negative impacts to wild salmon populations.

NEWS: Tuck Celebrates Distillery Bill Signed Into Law

Representative Chris Tuck (D-Anchorage, and House Democratic Leader) joined the Distillers Guild of Alaska yesterday to celebrate the passage of his House Bill 309. The measure allows Alaska’s small-scale distillers to host on-premises tours, offer tastings of their products, and engage in limited direct sales, as do Alaska’s breweries and wineries. A press conference and reception celebrating the bill’s passage was hosted by the Distillers Guild of Alaska Tuesday, August 5, at Anchorage’s Bare Distillery.
