These are trying times, and things are evolving rapidly. Let's take a minute to talk about what's happening and what we're doing about it.
I look forward to connecting with you via Facebook Live on Saturday, April 11th, 10:00 am - 11:00 am. You can access the live stream by going to my official legislative Facebook page at 10:00am. I hope to see you online!
April Report to the District
If you live in District 16, you should receive a copy of my latest Report to the District soon. It is full of information about the budget, which was passed in record time, Governor Dunleavy's vetoes, and the legislation I passed to get help to Alaskans impacted by the public health measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. You can find the Report here.
Wednesday, the House Labor & Commerce Committee will be hearing from Alaska Department of Labor experts on unemployment due to COVID-19, implementation of HB 308 - expanding access to unemployment insurance and Pandemic Unemployment Assistance. You can live stream it at www.akleg.gov.
On Friday afternoon, we will hear from economists and business leaders on the economic impacts of the COVID 19 pandemic including:
  • University of Alaska Anchorage's (UAA) Center for Economic Development
  • UAA's Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER),
  • Foraker Group
  • Anchorage Economic Development Corporation
You can live stream the hearing at www.akleg.gov.
The Department of Labor & Workforce Development publishes a monthly magazine on the economy and jobs called "Trends." April's Edition of "Trends" is on COVID-19 and Alaska's Economy. It's sobering and well worth the read.
There are tough times. COVID-19 is putting unprecedented stress on Alaskans--both in terms of our health and because of the economic impacts of the public health measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Alaskans always help Alaskans. Now we need to do that more than ever.
Please let me know if there is anything my team or I can do to help you. We are working remotely but checking our voicemails and emails regularly.
We are here to help.
Stay healthy,
