32nd Legislature
I wanted to make sure the news reached you—after weeks of negotiating, the House has finally organized. Our House Majority is a non-partisan coalition made of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents who are committed to putting Alaska before politics.
I am proud to be a part of it.

Our coalition recognizes the need for responsible, collaborative solutions to Alaska’s unique challenges. We will work towards a sustainable fiscal plan, a comprehensive pandemic response, and a better Alaska for all.

I will be sitting on the following committees:

  • Health & Social Services (HSS), Co-chair

  • Judiciary (JUD), Vice Chair

  • Labor & Commerce (L&C), Member

  • Special Committee on Arctic Policy, Economic Development, & Tourism (AET), Member

These assignments allow me to work directly on improving Alaska’s economy, public safety, and health. I ran for office to make a difference, and I am looking forward to using my skills and background to do just that.

Legislation

One of my top priorities is to extend the Disaster Declaration. The House has introduced HB 76, which is similar to the bill that is currently moving through the Senate. HB 76 will be heard in committees beginning next week. As I've said before, we need to quickly pass a disaster declaration bill that adequately meets Alaska's needs, and I look forward to working towards that.

HSS will also be hearing the Governor's Executive Order 119 (EO 119). EO 119 would separate the Department of Health & Social Services into the Department of Health and the Department of Family & Community Services. Similar to the Disaster Declaration, it is important that this change, if made, is done correctly and with Alaska’s best interests in mind. We’ll be exploring the motivations for, and the potential process and implications of, implementing EO 119 in HSS hearings. You can watch any bill hearings by going to akleg.gov or ktoo.org/gavel

Thank you for your support, as always. Please never hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns.
