Although our work in Juneau is not yet finished, I wanted to provide a report on the legislative accomplishments that were made during the 31st Legislature. During my time in office, I have fought for a balanced budget, the protection of the Permanent Fund and a sustainable Permanent Fund Dividend, and essential core services like public safety, education, and programs for vulnerable Alaskans.

Handcuffing the Governor

Governor Dunleavy has taken education funding hostage by threatening to withhold appropriations that already were passed by the Legislature. In response, the House and Senate voted to authorize a lawsuit defending education funding from the Governor’s illegal attacks. I voted “yes” because we cannot allow an outlaw executive to turn children into political pawns, or undermine the Constitutional separation of powers in our state.

I strongly oppose recently introduced legislation to criminalize women’s reproductive health care. It is repugnant to suggest that women’s basic reproductive health care should be criminalized. Several of my neighbors have already asked me whether this bill will pass and my answer is never, as long as reasonable people continue to constitute the House Majority.

Operating budget passes the House, Constituent Coffee in the morning

Great news: We have passed an operating budget through the House, which now will head over to the Senate. I am honored to participate in this process alongside colleagues and friends on both sides of the aisle.
