Hello friends and neighbors in Juneau and across Alaska! We had some incredible weather in Juneau this week. I hope you enjoyed the sun while it lasted.

Indigenous Peoples Day
Last week, Representative Dean Westlake brought a bill before the House that would establish the second Monday of October as Indigenous Peoples Day. I am proud to say I helped pass this bill. Alaska and all of America’s Indigenous people deserve recognition for their incredible history, culture, and long-standing traditions. Representative Westlake’s Indigenous Peoples Day bill will now have to pass the Senate before landing on the desk of the Governor for final confirmation.
Oil Tax Legislation
As a way to help solve Alaska’s fiscal problem, fellow House Majority Coalition members and Resources committee co-chairs Rep. Geran Tarr and Rep. Andy Josephson have introduced legislation to increase taxes on the oil industry and cut subsidies. Specifically, one part of the legislation includes raising the minimum oil company tax rate from 4% to 5%. The bill also provides that companies would no longer be able to use credits to lower their taxes below that rate. I support Rep. Josephson and Rep. Tarr’s legislation and the benefits it can bring to the State of Alaska. Legislative Information Office Open House
Every Alaskan should have a say in their government. If you are looking to get started in keeping up with the state, you are in luck! The Juneau Legislative Information Office, a public office that provides information on the legislative branch of Alaska State Government, is holding an open house and you are invited! I will be attending, and I hope to see you there. Below is the flyer for the event, where you can find more information.
Have a great week, and please do not hesitate to contact my office if you have any questions.
