Dear Friends and Neighbors,

First Opportunity for Public Testimony on the Budget

Later this week, the public will have their first chance to weigh in on the state budget for the upcoming year.

HB 205, the Governor’s proposed FY 21 budget, is currently being considered by the House Finance Committee. Budget Subcommittees in the House have been diligently reviewing this spending bill in recent weeks and are currently wrapping up their work.

The scheduled testimony period for Anchorage residents is Friday (2/21) from 5:00 to 6:45 PM and on Saturday (2/22) from 12:00 to 3:00 PM. Testimony will take place at the Anchorage LIO.

If you are unable to make it to the LIO in person, you can submit your written testimony to house.finance@akleg.gov or call-in during the allotted time to testify by phone.

Public testimony is limited to 2 minutes per person. Please sign-in at the LIO or call-in 30 minutes prior to the end of the allotted time period or testimony may close early. Also, if you are testifying in person, please try to arrive 15 minutes early to expedite the sign-in process. For more information about testifying on the budget please contact the Anchorage LIO

Though this year’s proposal by the Governor is causing significantly less outrage than the extreme cuts suggested last year, it is still paramount that the public stay engaged.

Please take the time this Friday or Saturday to make your voice heard and to speak up for programs that matter to you.

This Saturday- Anchorage Caucus and Mid-Session Constituent Pizza Party

This upcoming weekend, I will be traveling back to Anchorage for two fantastic events, both taking place on Saturday (2/22):

·         Anchorage Caucus- 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM- Anchorage Assembly Chambers, Loussac Library

This city-wide event brings together voters and legislators from around Anchorage each year to discuss the issues. This is a great chance to share your thoughts and concerns with Anchorage legislators from around town and across party lines.

·         Mid-Session Constituent Pizza Party- 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM- Anchorage LIO

Join Rep. Matt Claman, Rep. Harriet Drummond, Sen. Elvi Gray-Jackson and I for some pizza and beverages at the Anchorage LIO. This smaller and more informal event is a great chance to discuss the legislative session and talk about local issues that are important to you. Stop by after you finish testifying on the budget to chat and have a slice!

I hope that I see you this weekend in Anchorage!

Keep in touch!

Best wishes,
