JUNEAU – Governor Michael J. Dunleavy recently announced that he will deliver his State of the State speech virtually on Thursday at 7 p.m. rather than participating in a joint session of the Legislature.
JUNEAU – The Alaska Legislature is preparing to confront a deep conflict between the immediate needs of Alaskans during historically challenging times and potential negative long-term financial consequences associated with deficit spending.
ANCHORAGE – Health care price transparency regulations, enacted through Senate Bill 105 in 2018, will take full effect on December 20, meaning that Alaskans will be guaranteed the right to know how much health care procedures and services cost in advance of treatment rather than being surprised by a large bill later.
FAIRBANKS – Alaska is just one of twelve states in the country lacking a requirement that citizens help fight the COVID-19 pandemic by wearing a face mask indoors in public places where social distancing is impossible.
Today, after weeks of incremental progress, 21 members of the Alaska State House voted to form a diverse leadership coalition of Democrats, Independents, and Republicans, led by new Speaker of the House Representatives, Louise Stutes of Kodiak. Historically, Rep. Stutes is only the third woman to serve as Speaker of Alaska’s House.
