Meeting with Constituents and Others
This week, I have been meeting with government officials—including the Commissioner of Revenue and the Director of the Office of Management and Budget—and school administrators. I have also been discussing with other legislators the elements of a comprehensive long-term fiscal plan to address our state’s structural deficit. I got to have a conversation about Alaska’s public finances with Wendy Lindskoog, a Government Hill constituent and Regional Vice President of Government Relations for Royal Caribbean Group. I also had the pleasure of speaking with Stacy Barnes, a Government Hill constituent and Director of Governmental Relations & Public Affairs for Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, about creating affordable housing in Anchorage.

Meeting with Government Officials
Are you interested in serving on a board or commission of the State of Alaska? There are dozens of seats that come open from time to time. Let me know if you are interested in serving, and I will contact Jordan Shilling, Director of Boards and Commissions.
I had a good discussion about domestic violence and sexual assault with Diane Casto, Executive Director of the Alaska Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. We made plans to work together to combat these two plagues on our state.

Meeting with Non-Profit Organizations
Earlier this week, I met with Mike Walsh, Vice President of Public Policy for the Foraker Group, about how staff cutbacks in the State of Alaska’s Department of Health have delayed the distribution of grants and substantially lengthened the period for background checks. These delays have threatened the existence of several non-profit groups in Alaska and have even caused some to close their doors. This information fits in with other reports I am hearing about problems in state government creating significant issues for Alaskans. Our state needs a well-functioning state government for Alaskans to thrive. I also got to speak with Shannon Martin, Executive Director of the Kenai River Sportfishing Association, about conserving and managing our habitat for future generations.
