Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Today, after weeks of incremental progress, 21 members of the Alaska State House voted to form a diverse leadership coalition of Democrats, Independents, and Republicans, led by new Speaker of the House Representatives, Louise Stutes of Kodiak. Historically, Rep. Stutes is only the third woman to serve as Speaker of Alaska’s House. The last female Speaker was Rep. Gail Phillips of Homer whose as Speaker term ended in 1998.

As a member of the new coalition I will be continuing in my role as co-chair of the House Education Committee along with Rep. Andi Story of Juneau, where we will be focused on getting school districts the resources they need to reopen safely and to provide effective distance education when reopening is not possible.

Our coalition’s shared goals will be to focus on the policies which will move our state forward in critical areas such as COVID-19 vaccine distribution, emergency aid for families and businesses, and a coordinated public health effort which includes masks, social distancing, and wide availability of testing services statewide.

Things are going to move fast now that we are united behind common goals. I will keep you updated as we make headway. I am here to represent you, so please do not hesitate to reach out to me by email or by calling my office with your suggestions and concerns, or if I can assist you with any state or local issues,
