Public Input on Education Legislation
Last week I mentioned that the House Education Committee will be accepting public testimony on HB 65, a bill that I am proudly co-sponsoring. Representative Ortiz’s bill proposes raising the BSA (Base Student Allocation) by $1,250.
The committee will be accepting public testimony this Tuesday, March 21st from 5:15 to 7:15pm. If you would like to share your views on education, please attend and share your views on this bill and Alaska’s education system. The public can give input by calling 844-586-9085. When the switchboard operator answers, please state that you would like to testify on HB 65. Individuals can also testify in-person at the Fairbanks Legislative Information Office (LIO), 1292 Sadler Way, Suite 308. Facebook Event
If you cannot make Tuesday's hearing, you can email public comments to the committee at: house.education@akleg.gov
In other education related testimony, the Senate Labor and Commerce Committee will hear public testimony on Senate Bill 88, a return to a defined benefits retirement for all Alaska public employees on Monday, March 20, and Wednesday, March 22 at 1:30 PM. If you are interested in sharing your thoughts on this legislation, you may contact Fairbanks LIO or my office for further details.
