JUNEAU — The State of Alaska today announced a plan that attempts to import hundreds of medical personnel as our state experiences the highest levels of COVID-19 at any point in the pandemic and grapples with the worst infection rates in the nation.
ANCHORAGE — Following the amendment that the House Minority tacked on to Senate Bill 3006, legislators heard from healthcare workers and the Department of Health and Social Services, who advise that the bill in its current form is more detrimental than beneficial in enabling hospitals to address the COVID emergency. On that advice, the bill will not be sent back to the floor.

JUNEAU — The Alaska Superior Court issued a ruling today that insulates the Power Cost Equalization program from year-to-year political pressures.
JUNEAU — The House of Representatives voted 35-4 today to pass House Bill 123, a bill that formally recognizes the Alaska Native Tribes that have existed and governed themselves for millennia.
The regular session of the 32nd Legislature will be moving toward adjournment on May 19, but a special session will immediately convene on May 20 to continue work on the FY22 budgets. The Governor has also called a second special session to convene in August to appropriate federal COVID-relief funds.
JUNEAU – The House of Representatives today voted 35-4 to pass a bill cementing an agreement that empowers Tribal governments to manage oversight of child welfare issues in partnership with the State.
