Amendments would ensure low-cost gas, add accountability, provide maximum benefit to Alaskans
JUNEAU – Tonight, in an effort to add much needed accountability and assurances Alaskans will get low-cost gas and the maximum benefit from a small diameter gasline, Democratic legislators in the Alaska House of Representatives offered a series of amendments to the gasline’s enabling legislation.

We’re moving into the last couple weeks of these session so I want to take a moment and give an update from the committees that I serve on. I have the great privilege of serving on the House Resources Committee, Health & Social Services Committee, Economic Development, Trade & Tourism Committee, and the Joint Armed Services Committee.
Rep. Tarr resolution opposing genetically modified salmon passes Legislature unanimously
Juneau, AK – Today, the Senate unanimously passed House Joint Resolution 5, opposing what has been named “Frankenfish”. Sponsored by Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage), this resolution opposes FDA approval of genetically modified salmon.
Juneau – Today, House Joint Resolution 5 passed out of the Senate Resources Committee after hearing public testimony.
The resolution was introduced by Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage) at the beginning of the session. The resolution now has 27 co-sponsors in the House and six co-sponsors in the Senate.
The Gardens are Opening!
Winter is waning, spring is creeping in, and the Gardens at Bragaw are opening! The Anchorage Community Land Trust announced the opening of a new community garden this year. The garden is on Bragaw between 4th Ave and the Glenn Highway. Registration for Garden plots will take place on March 30th and April 6th at the Mountain View Library from 11 AM to 1 PM. This week, the House Finance committee is reviewing the operating budget for the State of Alaska. This is the time for you to comment. Below, I’ve highlighted a few changes to programs that may or may not affect you.

If you’re located in Anchorage, they will be hearing testimony on the Operating Budget from 4 – 5:15 PM on Tuesday, March 4. To testify, go to the Anchorage Legislative Information Office located at 716 W 4th Ave. Public comment will be LIMITED TO 2 MINUTES EACH. Please limit your testimony to this time.
Legislators propose amendment So Needed Water Isn’t Withdrawn From Fishing Streams
Today, Representative Les Gara (D-Anchorage) called on the governor to honor his promise not to “trade one resource for another” [Fairbanks Daily News Miner, March 11, 2010]. He called for the governor’s support in ensuring Alaska’s fish-producing streams maintain the water they need to support healthy fish runs.
