Juneau – Tonight, to avoid a government shutdown at the beginning of the month, the Alaska House of Representatives passed a combined Capital and Operating Budget for Fiscal Year 2018. The House budgets reverse the Senate’s $69 million cut to K-12 education and most of the cut to the University of Alaska. Additionally, the Capital Budget restored the full amount of expected Permanent Fund Dividends, which will be paid in the fall to eligible Alaskans.

Juneau – The members of the Finance Committee in the Alaska House of Representatives will spend all week examining Alaska’s fiscal policy and how policy changes will impact the Alaska economy. The committee will hear from business, municipal, labor, and tribal representatives in addition to presentations from the Alaska Department of Revenue and the non-partisan Legislative Finance Division.

Participants will include House Finance Committee Co-chairs Rep. Paul Seaton (R-Homer) and Rep. Neal Foster (D-Nome), and Finance Committee members Rep. David Guttenberg (D-Fairbanks) and Rep. Les Gara (D-Anchorage).
