Juneau – The Alaska House Majority Coalition will hold a press availability Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the Speaker’s Chambers. The availability will allow members of the coalition to answer question from reporters covering the 30th Alaska State Legislature.
The many new committee chairs in the Alaska House Majority Coalition took up their gavels in earnest this week to set forth on the work of the session. As a lot of you probably know, most meetings early in the session feature department and division overviews to help get legislators up to speed on the services and programs state government provides. That was mostly the case this week, although some legislation was heard.
The first session of the 30th Alaska State Legislature convened on Tuesday, with the House under the leadership of the new Alaska House Majority Coalition. During the opening floor session it was my great honor to be officially elected Speaker of the House. I also take great pride and a profound feeling of responsibility in being the first House Speaker of Alaska Native descent. As I said during our inaugural session, I hope to be the first in a long line of Alaska Native Speakers.
