ANCHORAGE – As Western Alaska faces one of the worst storms the state has seen in decades, the State Legislature stands ready to offer whatever assistance necessary to the people and communities affected.
ANCHORAGE – Yesterday, legislation sponsored by Representative Matt Claman that modernizes Alaska’s marriage statutes to address archaic child marriage statutes and keep Alaska open and ready for business became law.
ANCHORAGE – On Friday, August 5, HB 184, a bill codifying the Alaska Tribal Child Welfare Compact, automatically became State law without the Governor’s signature. The Alaska Tribal Child Welfare Compact began in 2017, under Governor Bill Walker and HSS Commissioner Valerie Nurr’araaluk Davidson, who signed the landmark State-Tribal Compact with 18 Tribal Co-Signers, representing 161 federally-recognized Tribes.
JUNEAU – The telehealth access Alaskans relied on during the pandemic has been made permanent after Rep. Ivy Spohnholz’s House Bill 265 was signed into law by the governor today.
JUNEAU – Members of the Alaska House Coalition were grieved to learn this morning that former State Senator Dennis Egan passed away at the age of 75. Egan was a business leader and well respected member in the Juneau community before he was elected Mayor in 1995.
