Rep. Ortiz Appointed to Operating Budget Conference Committee

JUNEAU – As the second session of the 33rd Alaska State Legislature enters its final days, the FY 25 Operating Budget has passed both the House and Senate, and discrepancies between the two versions will now be worked out in conference committee.

Veteran Finance Committee member, Representative Dan Ortiz (NA-Ketchikan) has been appointed to the conference committee along with House Finance Co-Chairs Representative Bryce Edgmon (I-Dillingham), and Representative DeLena Johnson (R-Palmer). The Senate has appointed Finance Co-Chairs Senator Bert Stedman (R-Sitka), Senator Lyman Hoffman (D-Bethel), and Senator Donny Olson (D-Golovin), making Southeast Alaska representation one-third of the conference committee makeup.

“I’m honored to be able to represent Southeast Alaska and the Alaska House Coalition in the final budget negotiations for the FY 25 fiscal year,” said Rep. Ortiz. “Experience matters at this step of the budget process. Having served on the finance committee since 2017, and the conference committee in 2022, I am confident that, together with Senator Stedman, we will be able to strongly advocate for the residents and businesses of our region, ensuring Southeast Alaska is taken care of in this year’s budget process.”
