JUNEAU – Alaska Ocean Cluster, and their mission to actively promote Alaska’s blue economy, was recognized by the House of Representatives in Speaker Stutes’ HCR 2. The House Concurrent Resolution, which stated the body’s official support for Alaska Ocean Cluster’s “mission, efforts and vision for a vibrant coastal economy in the state,” passed with a vote for 31-3.
“Our state is poised to become the national leader in the mariculture economy and it’s due to the tireless efforts of organizations like the Alaska Ocean Cluster that push us forward,” said Speaker Louise Stutes (R-Kodiak). “I’m grateful to my colleagues who voted for HCR 2 and affirmed their support for Alaska Ocean Cluster and this critical flourishing industry.”
“I have tremendous admiration and gratitude for the top-tier talent on the Alaska Ocean Cluster team and all they’re doing for Alaska’s economic future,” said Representative Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins (D-Sitka). “The Ocean Cluster is cultivating the innovation and entrepreneurship that will make Alaska competitive in a global economy, and I’m thrilled the legislature recognizes the importance of its work.”
“Coastal communities like Ketchikan really are the proving grounds for the blue economy,” said Representative Dan Ortiz (I-Southern Southeast). “Our vast and diverse coastlines and waterways provide endless opportunities for the blue economy to take root, which is why I am happy to support programs like the Ocean Cluster.”
HCR 2 will now be sent to the Senate for consideration.
