Co-Chairs of HHSS encourage Alaskans to recognize and thank frontline healthcare workers in week of appreciation

Representatives Tiffany Zulkosky (D-Bethel) and Liz Snyder (D-Anchorage) invite Alaskans to join them, during the week of October 17-23, in recognizing and thanking frontline healthcare workers across the state for their continued service to Alaska throughout the ongoing pandemic.

For over a year, Alaska’s healthcare professionals have worked courageously—often at great personal risk and amidst nationwide shortages of personal protective equipment—to slow the effects of a global pandemic in our communities and among our neighbors. Alaska is experiencing a surge of COVID-19 transmission, including record-setting hospitalizations of seriously ill Alaskans. And despite overwhelming fatigue and a nationwide shortage of health professionals, Alaska’s healthcare heroes continue to show up.

“Over the last year and a half, I have witnessed firsthand the compassion, resourcefulness, and resilience of Alaska’s healthcare workers,” said Rep. Tiffany Zulkosky. “The incredible work being done by Health Aides in village clinics, to nurses and providers in hospitals across the state, exemplifies the love Alaskans have for one another. Caring for our friends and neighbors is a long-held Alaskan value. Let’s join together to show gratitude and appreciation to those who continue to do the difficult work every day, under the most difficult of circumstances.”

“We all have a healthcare worker in our lives — whether they’ve cared for us or a loved one, or they themselves are a family member or a friend,” said Rep. Liz Snyder. “In the face of uncertainty and adversity, they have carried us through the pandemic. Now, more than ever, they need to feel our support. Please join us in sharing messages of thanks and encouragement.”
