ANCHORAGE – The Fiscal Policy Working Group held its inaugural meeting today.
The Legislature formed the group to develop a comprehensive fiscal plan to address Alaska’s budget challenges, with eight members from the legislative majorities and minorities in the House and Senate assigned to play a leadership role ahead of a special session this fall.
The Alaska House Coalition appointed Rep. Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins (D-Sitka) and Rep. Calvin Schrage (I-Anchorage).
“The people at the table today represent the diversity in our state: geographically, ideologically, and personally,” Representative Kreiss-Tomkins said. “I’m excited by the prospect of working together to thoroughly evaluate our State’s fiscal picture and exploring options that will help bring Alaska forward.”
“The inaugural meeting today set the stage for a month of productive conversation about how we can build a sustainable budget for Alaska’s future,” Representative Schrage said. “We are optimistic that this group will be able to identify common areas of understanding around the budget so that the full Legislature can finally resolve the longstanding gridlock when we next reconvene.”
