Special Screening of ‘No Small Matter’ for Week of the Young Child
Legislators, staff, and the community invited to learn more
ANCHORAGE – Reps. Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage) and Sara Rasmussen (R-Anchorage) are joining with the Alaska Early Childhood Advocacy group to screen a virtual showing of No Small Matter, a film that highlights the benefits of early childhood education, for this year’s Week of the Young Child.
The virtual showing of the movie will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, followed by an online discussion with a panel of experts who will talk about needs and resources for families during this disruptive time. Please contact Joy Lyon at 907-789-1235 or 888-785-1235 to reserve a place and participate in the discussion.
“During this time of social isolation and minimal contact with others, I am excited that we were able to collaborate on the virtual showing of No Small Matter to continue advocating for early childhood education,” said Representative Rasmussen, a leader of the Children’s Caucus in the Alaska Legislature.
Representative Tarr added, “I’m thrilled Alaska is recognizing the Week of the Young Child. The need to support our kids does not go away during COVID-19 and in fact with kids home from school many families are actively trying to learn about how to be educators for their children. This movie is the perfect opportunity for timely learning. We can be physically apart while coming together virtually for the showing of No Small Matter to learn more. We hope you will join us!”
The Week of the Young Child is celebrated from April 11-17, and this month is also National Child Abuse Prevention Month which recognizes the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect, and promote the social and emotional well-being of children and families. During the month of April and throughout the year, communities are encouraged to provide education and support to families through resources and strategies to prevent child abuse and neglect.
