JUNEAU – Governor Mike Dunleavy’s proposal to cut Medicaid spending is touted as a cost-saving measure, but would actually cause hundreds of job losses and force major Alaska hospitals to cancel tens of millions of dollars in planned capital improvements.
Earlier this month, the House Finance Committee began having subcommittee meetings. Each Finance Subcommittee is responsible for taking a close look at a particular department budget. I am the Chair of the Education, Fish & Game, and Environmental Conservation Finance Subcommittees, which means I lead the budget discussions for each of these departments. The subcommittee process will end in a little less than two weeks, and from there, each agency budget will be heard in the full Finance Committee meetings.
