National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Representative Geran Tarr Encourages Alaskans to Participate in the 15th Annual Prescription Drug Take Back Day this Saturday, April 28th

Rep. Geran Tarr

Anchorage – Saturday, April 28th, is the 15th Annual National Drug Take-Back Day.  This is your opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding your home of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

In October, Alaskans turned in 3,735 pounds of prescription medications in 18 sites across the state. The US Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Agency sponsors this event twice each year to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of prescription drugs, while also educating the public about the potential for abuse of medications.

“Prescription drugs are often stolen from family and friends, taken directly from your home medicine cabinet,” said Rep. Tarr (D-Anchorage) “I encourage all Alaskans to help prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths by safely disposing your unused drugs.”

WHAT:

Opportunity for Alaskans to safely dispose of unused prescription drugs (liquids and needles cannot be accepted, only pills or patches).  The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

WHEN:

This Saturday, April 28th, 2018, from 10 AM to 2 PM

WHERE:

  • Providence Medical Center – 33000 Providence Drive, Entrance #4
  • ANTHC Healthy Communities Building – 3900 Ambassador Drive
  • Fred Meyer (Muldoon) – 7701 DeBarr Road
  • Fred Meyer (Abbott) – 2300 Abbott Road
  • Fred Meyer (Eagle River) – 13401 Old Glenn Highway
