Juneau – Today, the Alaska House of Representatives took a step towards returning to the tradition of allowing lawmakers from different parties and caucuses to jointly sponsor bills and resolutions. House Bill 41 reinstates a long-time practice of allowing members to work together as lead sponsors of important legislation.
Juneau – Today, the Alaska House of Representatives passed legislation sponsored by Representative Matt Claman (D-Anchorage) that supports the health of Alaskan women and their families by providing greater access to reproductive health care and prescription contraceptives.
Juneau – Today, the Alaska House of Representatives passed legislation sponsored by Representative Matt Claman (D-Anchorage) that updates Alaska statutes dealing with franchise agreements between auto dealers and auto manufacturers and distributors. Senator Kevin Meyer (R-Anchorage) has sponsored the companion bill in the Senate with identical provisions.
Greetings from Juneau on this 84th day of the session. Although the legislature won’t adjourn by April 15th, the 90th day, we all hope to finish our work soon. Leadership continues to negotiate with the Senate and the Governor to determine the must-have items from this session.
The House has passed the operating budget on to the Senate. I am hoping that the Senate works quickly so that the Legislature can conclude session within 90 days.
Juneau – The Alaska House Majority Coalition will hold a press availability Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. to answer questions from reporters covering the 30th Alaska State Legislature. Participants will include House Majority Leader Rep. Chris Tuck (D-Anchorage), House Finance Committee Member Rep. Scott Kawasaki (D-Fairbanks), House Health and Social Services Committee Chair Rep. Ivy Spohnholz (D-Anchorage), and House Community and Regional Affairs Committee Co-Chair Rep. Justin Parish (D-Juneau).
