From the Desk of Representative Seaton: February 28, 2018 Public Testimony on the Operating Budget Thursday – Saturday

Greetings from Juneau on this 44th day of the session! I wanted to send out a reminder for public testimony on the Operating Budget which starts Thursday March 1 from 1-3:00pm for District 31. Written testimony may be emailed anytime to HouseFinance@akleg.gov. The subcommittees’ proposed amendments have all been voted on in House Finance and today they were incorporated into new Committee Substitutes for HB 285 Operating Budget and HB 286 Mental health Budget .

Yesterday, House Finance finished going through its initial rewrite of the budget and today we adopted that as a committee substitute. The committee substitute includes a restoration of $19 million to the University of Alaska and an amendment reducing the draw from the earnings reserve of the Alaska Permanent Fund from 5.25% to 4.75%. In the days ahead, the budget will be amended in Finance Committee, then go to the House for a vote on the Floor before being referred to the Senate where the process will be repeated. Legislation to Update Alaska’s Code of Military Justice Passes the Alaska House

Juneau – Today, the Alaska House of Representatives unanimously passed legislation to update Alaska’s Code of Military Justice (ACMJ) to mirror recent updates to the Federal Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). House Bill 307, sponsored by House Military and Veterans Affairs Committee Chair Representative Chris Tuck (D-Anchorage), is a continuation of the successful effort in 2016 to update the state code for the first time since 1955.
