John Lincoln Becomes the Newest Member of the Alaska House of Representatives

Rep. Lincoln Takes the Oath of Office in Front of Friends and Family from Western Alaska

Juneau – The members of the Alaska House Majority Coalition welcome John Agnaqluk Lincoln to the Alaska House of Representatives. Rep. Lincoln (D-Kotzebue) was sworn in by Speaker of the House Rep. Bryce Edgmon (D-Dillingham) during today’s House floor session.

“John Lincoln was born and raised in Kotzebue, and he has family connections spread throughout the district. He’s a pilot, a graduate of Stanford University, and is the Vice President of Lands with the NANA Regional Corporation. He is uniquely well-suited to represent District 40 and the people of Northern and Northwestern Alaska,” said Speaker Edgmon. “The fiscal challenges facing Alaska are significant and daunting, but in my conversations with Rep. Lincoln, I have found him to be thoughtful and dedicated to solutions, not politics. That will serve him well in the coming weeks as he helps us set Alaska on a path towards prosperity and stability.”

Rep. Lincoln will serve the remainder of the term of Dean Westlake, who resigned last month. Rep. Lincoln has been assigned to serve on several committees including the Resources Committee and the Community and Regional Affairs Committee. Rep. Lincoln will serve as the Chair of the Special Committee on Arctic Policy, Economic, Development, and Tourism.

“Stepping into an ongoing legislative session can be a daunting prospect, but Rep. Lincoln is up to the challenge. He will be put to the test because we have a lot of work to do to pass a legislative agenda to protect jobs, the economy, and the future of the Alaska Permanent Fund. I look forward to working closely with Rep. Lincoln and anticipate he will help us build an economy that works for both the people of rural Alaska and those who live in the railbelt,” said House Majority Leader Rep. Chris Tuck (D-Anchorage).

On January 24, Alaska Governor Bill Walker chose John Lincoln to fill the vacant House District 40 seat in the Alaska Legislature. He was then unanimously confirmed by the Democrats in the Alaska House of Representatives.
