I’m back in Juneau and feeling cautiously optimistic about the 2018 session. Finance subcommittees have started to meet, and after several special sessions that seemed never to end, my colleagues and I are anxious to pass a fully-funded budget as quickly as we can.
Juneau – Representative Harriet Drummond (D-Anchorage) has introduced legislation to protect the ability for Alaskans to go to work despite past convictions for marijuana possession. House Bill 316 seeks to seal public records related to marijuana possession in the wake of voter approval of legalization in Alaska in November of 2014. The bill also calls for the Alaska CourtView system to be wiped clean of all marijuana convictions classified as a VIA misdemeanor. The citizens initiative allowed the sale and consumption of recreational marijuana but failed to address how to deal with those previously convicted of marijuana possession.
Juneau – The members of the Alaska House Majority Coalition welcome John Agnaqluk Lincoln to the Alaska House of Representatives. Rep. Lincoln (D-Kotzebue) was sworn in by Speaker of the House Rep. Bryce Edgmon (D-Dillingham) during today’s House floor session.
Keeping you informed about what’s happening in Juneau and the important issues facing our community has always been a top priority for me.
