House Democrats’ Statement on District 40 Appointment

Juneau – Alaska House Democrats released the following statement on the Governor’s appointment of John Agnaqluk Lincoln to fill the vacant seat in House District 40.

“On behalf of the Alaska House Majority Coalition, I would like to congratulate Mr. Lincoln and welcome him to the team,” said Speaker of the Alaska House of Representatives Bryce Edgemon (D-Dillingham) “We are excited for what he can bring to the caucus, and have immense confidence he will provide excellent, effective representation for the people of District 40.”

“We want to thank everyone who put their names forward for consideration, particularly Sandy Shroyer-Beaver, Eugene Smith, Leanna Mack, and Abel Hopson-Suvlu who were advanced by the district for Governor Walker’s consideration,” said Representative Chris Tuck (D-Anchorage) “It is a tremendous responsibility and privilege to serve one’s district. I am grateful for their willingness to serve, particularly to volunteer for this commitment with little notice over the holidays.”

“I want to thank District 40 Chair Jane Winzer for taking time from her holidays to go through the selection process, and continuing to engage the district in search of the best representation for District 40,” said Representative Neal Foster (D-Nome) “It was imperative that we fill the vacancy as soon as possible to get the appointment in place and House District 40 the representation it properly deserves. I would also like to thank the Governor for his commitment to finding the best possible representation for the people of House District 40. I am confident that we have done so.”
