Fairbanks – Representative David Guttenberg (D-Fairbanks) will host a constituent workshop Saturday focused on efforts to build a better broadband network in the Fairbanks area.
“Many of us have been waiting patiently for the providers to come forward with solutions to bring high-speed, affordable, and reliable broadband to every Alaskan despite our obvious geographic and climate challenges,” said Rep. Guttenberg. “The goal of Saturday’s workshop is to hear how other areas of the country overcame similar challenges and see if those solutions are right for Alaska. I believe that high-speed, affordable broadband is possible right here in Fairbanks and I hope Saturday’s workshop will shed some light on how to make that dream a reality.”
Saturday’s workshop will feature several invited speakers discussing how they planned and constructed broadband fiber optic networks in rural communities across the United States.
“The speakers will discuss how they successfully brought high-speed internet to their communities at affordable prices, which is something the private sector in Alaska has been unwilling or unable to do,” said Rep. Guttenberg. “It is time to look at the options, see what has worked elsewhere, and get to work on solutions here in Alaska.”
Saturday’s constituent workshop, “Building Better Broadband” will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
