Meeting Scheduled for Thursday, October 19th
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 16, 2017
Anchorage – Representative Matt Claman (D-Anchorage) and Representative Jason Grenn (I-Anchorage) will hold a public safety town hall and resource fair on Thursday evening to continue conversations about public safety concerns, share available resources, and discuss how to work together to improve safety in West Anchorage.
“Crime has become a critical issue here in Anchorage. With three children, I too am concerned about the rise in crime in our great city. Dealing with crime is a complicated issue, with many different factors. Given that crime rates have been on the rise for several years, we need to be looking more deeply for the root causes. We need to find quick solutions, but long-term ones as well,” said Rep. Grenn.
“The community is concerned about public safety in our neighborhoods and having enough prosecutors and police officers. Public safety continues to be priority for me and this event is a positive way to continue conversations about the topic. I look forward to working with friends, neighbors and the law enforcement community in working toward innovative solutions,” said Rep. Claman.
Thursday’s meeting will be held in Anchorage from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Kincaid Elementary School Cafeteria. Guest speakers will include Anchorage Mayor Ethan Berkowitz and Acting Deputy Chief Captain Sean Case with the Anchorage Police Department. After updates from the Mayor and the Anchorage Police Department, community members will be given the opportunity to visit resource tables, ask questions, and learn more about organizations and resources available in our community. Food and drinks will be provided.
