Juneau – Speaker of the Alaska House of Representatives, Rep. Bryce Edgmon (D-Dillingham), today released the following statement regarding the ongoing special legislative session and approaching deadline to avoid a government shutdown.
Juneau – Thursday’s decision by President Donald Trump to withdraw the United States from the landmark Paris Agreement to combat global climate change has drawn a sharp rebuke from the two Co-chairs of the Resources Committee in the Alaska House of Representatives.
Thank you to all that attended the West Anchorage Town Hall last week. I co-hosted the event with Representative Jason Grenn, and we were pleased that over 60 friends and neighbors attended.
In times of big decisions, it’s so important to talk in-person about what’s being considered, how it impacts our community and our visions for Alaska’s future. While I am always available via email, phone and social media, there’s nothing quite like neighbors meeting and sharing face-to-face.
The two most pressing issues for the Legislature right now are passing an operating budget before a potential July 1st government shutdown and to put on overall fiscal plan in place to address our deficit.
It’s been a long session in Juneau and, as you likely know, we are now into overtime with the first special session (more details below), called by Governor Walker because the legislature didn’t agree on a budget for FY2018 or needed new revenues.
