NEWS: Legislation Advances to Change Board of Game Membership

Rep. Andrew Josephson

HB 134 Would Add a Non-Consumptive User Engaged in Wildlife Conservation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 4, 2017

Juneau – On Friday, legislation to change the makeup of the Alaska Board of Game was advanced out of the House Resources Committee.  House Bill 134, sponsored by Representative Andy Josephson (D-Anchorage), amends the composition of the Board of Game to include one member whose main use of game resources is non-consumptive and who is actively engaged in wildlife conservation.

“For far too long non-consumptive interests have been lacking on the Board of Game, which is why I feel strongly that the Board of Game could benefit by having someone serve who has expertise in wildlife viewing, photography, or even scientific research,” said Rep. Josephson.  “House Bill 134 helps ensure the Board of Game has different viewpoints represented so that our unique wildlife resources remain abundant and properly managed.”

HB 134 was advanced out of the House Resources Committee on Friday and has been referred to the House Rules Committee, which is the final stop before a vote on the floor of the Alaska House of Representatives.
