In our effort to create a responsible action plan for Alaska’s financial challenges, we encourage you to testify on current budget proposals.
Every week in the legislature brings new challenges. The business of the state does not stop, even for a looming fiscal crisis. I’ve been working hard these last couple of weeks to balance our budget and support the needs of my constituents and all Alaskans.
This week, the House Finance Committee will be hearing public testimony on the budget – please take time to go to your Legislative Information Office (LIO) or call to weigh in. What services and programs are important to you? See below for information on when and how to testify. It is also time to file Permanent Fund Dividend application, and additional information on that can be found below. There is also an update on some of the bills I’m sponsoring.
JUNEAU – This week, economists with the Alaska Department of Revenue produced a report analyzing how much Alaska generates in oil production taxes after the state pays out subsidies in the form of oil tax credits. The report shows that in the next fiscal year, FY 2018, the state of Alaska is slated to pay out roughly $20 million more in tax credits than it is estimated to receive in production tax payments.
