A big thanks to all who came out to the Anchorage Caucus meeting and/or Neighborhood Town Hall last Saturday! These gatherings resulted in some great discussion, allowing me to hear direct feedback from our community to help guide me down in Juneau. I had the chance to talk with many of you and am truly humbled to be your representative.
The House Resources Committee will be taking public testimony on HB 111 at 6pm today. This is your opportunity weigh in on oil and gas reform measures. Please testify from the Anchorage Legislative Information Office. You can also email comments to the Resources Committee at lhsres@akleg.gov.
Tomorrow, the House Finance Committee will take public testimony on the state Operating Budget (HB 57) and Mental Health Budget (HB 59). I hope you’ll take advantage of this opportunity to share your priorities with committee and the public.

I wanted to send out a reminder for public testimony on the Operating Budget which starts Thursday 1-3:30pm for District 31 (overflow is on Saturday 3-5p or email anytime to HouseFinance@akleg.gov ). The subcommittees’ proposed amendments have all been voted on in House Finance and today they will be incorporated into a new Committee Substitute for HB 57 Operating Budget. Juneau – Representative Les Gara (D-Anchorage) and Amanda Metivier, the co-founder of Alaska’s main foster youth advocacy and peer support non-profit, have a new thing in common besides being former foster youth. As of January, they have now each been recognized with awards for their work advocating for foster youth by Casey Family Programs, the nation’s leading foster youth advocacy foundation.
