FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 6, 2016
Anchorage – Representative Dan Ortiz (I-Ketchikan) applauds the new Statement of Cooperation on the Protection of Transboundary Waters between the State of Alaska and British Columbia. The statement was signed today by Alaska Lt. Governor Byron Mallott, the British Columbia Minister of Energy and Mines, and the British Columbia Minister of Environment.
“Signing the Statement of Cooperation reiterates the commitment of both governments to protect transboundary waters and fisheries. It builds on the Memorandum of Understanding signed nearly a year ago,” said Rep. Ortiz. “This is an important step in addressing the concerns of Southern Southeast residents concerned about proposed Canadian mining projects that could threaten our water quality, the health of our fish and other aquatic resources.”
