Voting is a Civic Duty, But You Can’t Vote if Not Registered
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 14, 2016
Anchorage – Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage) is joining national, state, and local efforts later this month to increase the number of those registered to vote. National Voter Registration Day is September 27th and Rep. Tarr will be participating in voter registration efforts in the Mountain View and Airport Heights neighborhoods of Anchorage.
“The low voter turnout we saw in Alaska last month, and in many other states during this election season, is indicative of a disconnect between the people and their government,” said Rep. Tarr. “This can change if the people get the government they want and need, but that can only happen if people participate in the process by voting. We have a responsibility to do what we can to make registration convenient and easy to accomplish.”
Hundreds of voter registration events are planned nationwide on September 27th as part of National Voter Registration Day. Volunteers will be encouraging voter registration through one-on-one discussions, social media and traditional media campaigns, and expanded voter registration opportunities. Rep. Tarr will assist Anchorage area residents with voter registration during events at the Red Apple store in Mountain View, and at the Carrs-Safeway at the Northway Mall on Tuesday, September 27th.
“Registering to vote in Alaska is a simple and easy process that takes just minutes,” said Rep. Tarr. “If we get more people registered to vote, and they go to the polls on Election Day, our state and local governments will be better. Our government is stronger when everyone participates and has the chance to be involved in decision making.”
Information on registering to vote in Alaska can be found on the Alaska Division of Elections website.
