NEWS: 8th Annual Mountain View Street Fair will be Held June 11 in Conjunction with World Refugee Day

Rep. Geran Tarr

Day-Long Fair Will Celebrate the Character of Mountain View and Honor Alaska’s Vibrant Refugee Community

May 26, 2016

Juneau – Now in its 8th year, the Mountain View Street Fair in Anchorage brings together residents, artists, performers, and service providers to celebrate Mountain View’s character and draw attention to the amazing work taking place throughout neighborhood. New this year is a partnership with Catholic Social Services to host World Refugee Day in conjunction with the street fair on Saturday, June 11th.

Celebrating World Refugee Day is a natural fit for the street fair given Mountain View’s distinction as the most diverse neighborhood in America.  World Refugee Day honors the resiliency of millions of refugees worldwide.  Catholic Social Services’ Refugee Assistance and Immigration Services program welcomes approximately 130 new refugees to Anchorage every year.

“I’m proud to be on the team organizing this dynamic community event,” said Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage).  “Every year thousands of our neighbors join us for a day of fun.  We are so excited that World Refugee Day will be a part of the fair this year and hope folks across Anchorage will join us to celebrate our great neighborhood.”

The 2016 Mountain View Street Fair and World Refugee Day will offer local food, live music and dancing, activities for all ages, and programs at the Mountain View Branch Library.  Entertainment at the street fair will include breakdancing competitions and performances by Hmong and Alaska Native youth dancers, as well as the Mountain View-based Alaska Youth Music Matters program.

The Mountain View Street Fair will run from noon until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 11th, at Clark Middle School, 150 Bragaw St, Anchorage.  The World Refugee Day celebration will run from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
