Rep. Wool Opposes the $50 Million Cut to the University Budget Accepted by Conference Committee
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 14, 2016
Juneau — Today, Rep. Adam Wool (D-Fairbanks), whose district includes the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus, released the following statement on the House and Senate Conference Committee action on the University of Alaska budget.
“I am deeply disappointed that the Republican members of the Conference Committee voted for severe cuts to the University of Alaska. When Eielson Air Force Base was under attack, we came together across the political spectrum to save it, we should be doing the same for UAF,” said Rep. Wool. “I keep hearing that we don’t have enough money to fund the university, but apparently we have enough to buy the LIO in Anchorage for $32.5 million and spend hundreds of millions more in oil tax credits than we receive in oil revenue. These priorities are backwards.”
The vote in the Conference Committee was 5-1. Rep. Les Gara (D-Anchorage), the only Minority member on the committee, voted no.
