JUNEAU – The Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition released the following statement on Governor Bill Walker’s proposed FY 2016 budget.

“We applaud the Governor’s bold leadership in addressing this troubling fiscal crisis that he inherited from the previous administration and Republican legislatures,” said House Minority Leader Chris Tuck (D-Anchorage).  “I can assure Alaskans that we will fight vigorously in support of their key values.  Those include protecting our public education system, making our communities safer, and providing long-term economic opportunities.”

The Governor’s proposed FY 2016 budget has been transmitted to the Alaska Legislature and been made available online on the Alaska Office of Management and Budget website.  The three members of the Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition on the House Finance Committee will be closely reviewing the budget documents in the coming days looking for additional efficiencies to help close the $3.6 billion budget deficit.

The Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition in the Alaska House encourages the public to participate in the legislative process in the coming months and to contact lawmakers to share their budget priorities.
