“Picnic In The Park” Set For South Fairbanks Park July 23
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – JULY 18, 2014
Representative Scott Kawasaki (D – Fairbanks) will host another in his series of summer “Picnics in the Park” Wednesday, July 23, at 4:00 p.m. at the South Fairbanks Park on 23rd Avenue. Rep. Kawasaki has hosted a series of picnics across the city to celebrate the more than 60 free public parks maintained by the Fairbanks North Star Borough.
“We are privileged to live in such a beautiful and scenic place,” Rep. Kawasaki said. “These picnics have given neighbors across Fairbanks the chance to socialize and share ideas on how to make Fairbanks a better place to live, work and raise a family.”
Rep. Kawasaki worked with the Alaska Legislature’s Interior Delegation to secure money for many local parks, including the new South Davis Park complex, Pioneer Park upgrades, the Pioneer Museum, Growden Park, and artificial turf fields at the Fairbanks Youth Soccer Complex. Since he came into office in 2007, Rep. Kawasaki has championed healthy living and active lifestyles. He has authored numerous legislative citations celebrating local groups, from the Fairbanks Co-Op Market to the Equinox Marathon.
Wednesday’s picnic will be the penultimate event this summer. “Even though we’ve seen record rainfall this summer, we’ve had huge turnouts at each of our picnics,” Kawasaki said. “It’s been great to reconnect with so many neighbors and even welcome some new people to Fairbanks.”
The final Picnic in the Park will take place September 6, 2014 at the Fairbanks Lions Recreation Area, on the corner of College and Danby.
