This week, the State Senate scheduled a hearing for the U-Med/Northern Access Road bill that Senator Gardner and I introduced. I also attempted to restore funding to critical programs like Pre-K and job readiness, as well as welcomed a new colleague to the Legislature.

As expected, the Governor’s new gas line proposal has dominated much of the legislature’s discussions this session. Although the deal is far from done, and may not ultimately be the right path forward, the development of our natural gas reserves is a critical goal for the future of our state. It is essential that Alaskans have access to good information so we can negotiate a good deal for the long-term.

JUNEAU – Representative Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins (D-Sitka) introduced open data legislation on Friday establishing an online data portal to allow Alaskans to easily access public records from one central website – basically, a data.gov equivalent for the State of Alaska.
