JUNEAU – Representative Les Gara, Senator Bill Wielechowski, and Senate Democratic Leader Hollis French will host a press conference to discuss their oil tax proposal Monday, February 24, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the Butrovich Room of the state Capitol.
JUNEAU – Today, Representative Geran Tarr introduced legislation to bring voter participation into the 21st Century through a simple online system. Under the proposal, voters could sign in to the existing Legislative information database, BASIS, using their social and professional media accounts. From there, Alaskans could respectfully comment on bills, vote bills up or down, and share their ideas for new legislation or amendments.
Good news for my friends and neighbors in Anchorage: there are two important events coming up this Saturday, February 22nd. First, if there is an issue before the Alaska Legislature that you are concerned about or supportive of, please come and speak up to the Anchorage Caucus from 9:00am to 2:00pm in the Assembly Chambers at the Loussac Library. I’ll be co-chairing the meeting.
In the past few weeks I have received countless emails on important subjects like ending cuts to our public school teachers, supporting efforts toward a large diameter gasline, opposing the constitutional amendment to allow public funds to go to private and/or religious schools, as well as emails about local issues such as the UMed/Northern Access Road.
As I represent you in 28th Alaska Legislature, it is important for me to hear your thoughts and concerns and make sure you have good information about what is happening in the Capitol.
