JUNEAU – Today, Representative Scott Kawasaki (D-Fairbanks) pre-filed legislation (HB248) to make May 15 of each year “Think Local Day” to encourage Alaskans to consider local businesses and organizations when making purchasing decisions and choosing where to dedicate their time.
“Alaska is full of great local businesses and organizations that offer quality goods and services,” said Kawasaki. “Our goal is to remind Alaskans to think locally before sending their dollars Outside. It’s good for our local economy, the offerings are great, and it’s the right thing to do.”
In 2012, the Fairbanks North Star Borough named May 15 “Think Local Day” within the borough. Kawasaki’s bill would make Think Local Day a recurring statewide event to increase Alaskans’ awareness and use of local businesses, food, and products.
