NEWS: Bi-Partisan Bill Would Honor Tlingit Elder, Create Walter Soboleff Day

Today, legislators from Southeast Alaska introduced bi-partisan legislation (HB217) to set aside November 14 of each year to honor the life and work of Dr. Walter A Soboleff, a revered Tlingit elder who passed away in 2011 at the age of 102. Representative Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins (D-Sitka), Representative Peggy Wilson (R-Wrangell), Representative Cathy Muñoz (R-Juneau), and Representative Beth Kerttula (D-Juneau) are co-prime sponsors of the legislation.

NEWS: Democrats Introduce Denali KidCare Expansion

JUNEAU – Today, Representative Harriet Drummond (D-Anchorage), Representative Beth Kerttula (D-Juneau) and Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage) pre-filed legislation to expand Denali KidCare, the state’s popular health care program for low-income children and pregnant women, to roughly 1500 more Alaskan women and children.

NEWS: Democrats Pre-file Bill to Ensure Safe Places for Mothers to Breastfeed

JUNEAU – Today, Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage), Representative Beth Kerttula (D-Juneau), and Representative Harriet Drummond (D-Anchorage) pre-filed legislation to ensure Alaskan mothers have the time and a safe place to breastfeed or express milk while at work. Currently, it is difficult for many Alaskan mothers to find a clean, safe place to express while at work.

NEWS: Drummond Pre-Files Bill to Protect Alaska Bees, Agriculture

JUNEAU – Today, Representative Harriet Drummond pre-filed legislation to ban a class of pesticides that harm bee populations local agriculture businesses depend on to pollinate berries and other crops. The legislation (HB224) aims to prevent the introduction of these pesticides before they impact Alaskan agriculture as they have in the Lower 48 and around the world.
